Native Plant Walk in East Shepherd Canyon

Local  resident and Canyoneer guide John Hopper will lead an interpretive walk on the Native Plant Trail in East Shepherd Canyon on Sunday morning, September 7, at 9:30. Meet at the southeast corner of Santo Road and Antigua Blvd.  Twenty native plant markers with brief descriptions have been installed as part of Girl Scout Troop 3278's Silver Star project. On the walk John will fill in interesting details about the plants - what birds and insects get from them, how the Kumeyaay Indians used them, what functions they serve in a wetland habitat. This is the culminating event of the Troop's Silver Star project, which they hope will be an ongoing community resource for our native environment. Come join the walk, give yourself a peaceful hour in the canyon, and come away a little wiser!
