On July 25, 2014, Justin DeCesare, the current President of the Tierrasanta Community Council sent a letter to Mayor Faulconer, City Council President Todd Gloria, Councilmember Scott Sherman, School Board President Kevin Beiser, and School Superintendent Cindy Marten regarding a March 20, 2012 letter by a former Tierrasanta Community Council President.

The content of the letter Mr. DeCesare sent is as follows:

Dear Mayor Faulconer, Council President Gloria, Councilmember Sherman, Board President Beiser, and Superintendent Marten,

On 20 March 2012, a former President of the Tierrasanta Community Council issued a letter of support for a charter school in Tierrasanta that has been used in a recent petition for a charter by Elevate Elementary. The subject letter contains the following passage:

“The TCC fully supports the efforts to establish a charter school by Life Leadership Academy in Tierrasanta. We applaud their goals and efforts to establish a K-6 charter program in Tierrasanta and wish to express our strong support to their goal of establishing this program within our community.” 

At the time this was written, no Community Council agenda item had been voted upon with which to substantiate this claim and therefore was not a public position taken by the council as a whole.

This letter serves to advise the Board of Education and the City that there has been no such recommendation by the Tierrasanta Community Council at the time this letter is written and any land use recommendation regarding a Conditional Use Permit for Elevate Elementary will be based solely on the merits of the project itself, as determined by the current members of the Tierrasanta Community Council.
